I'm a few chapters into a great book on leveraging Google in your marketing: Complete Idiots Guide to Growing Your Business with Google by Dave Taylor (who also happens to be a friend and a master blogger - check him out at www.askdavetaylor.com ) He makes many valid points and offers great strategy that, quite honestly, reads like so much more than just Google advice.
He actually recommends that you take a step back from your operation and crystallize your thoughts on your business BEFORE you embark on any creation or changes to your website. What are your key offerings and why are they better? What are your challenges and barriers to entry? When you actually WRITE OUT (or type out actually) the answers to these questions, you go a long way in laying out a roadmap for Internet strategy that will pay huge dividends.
And take it from me - a cliche that is very applicable here is MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE. What do I mean? Do your research and your brainstorming BEFORE you build, update, scrap or drop kick your website. It will save you much time and money. Most importantly, you will be in a position to write much better content for your site that actually means something and has a chance at converting your visitors into CUSTOMERS!
More on the book soon...
