Bill Self should be taken out back and well, you know! KU made an unexpected early exit from the NCAA tourney in the first round against, of all teams, Bradley. And it was ugly. I'm still not quite sure if KU actually showed up for the game.
And then I heard something interesting... one of the commentators shared that Bill Self (KU's coach) said he was uncertain how the young Jayhawks would perform during March Madness given their inexperience and youth. WHAT KIND OF COACH QUESTIONS HIS TEAM BEFORE BATTLE??? You have to BREATHE belief into your troops - not give them even more reason to question and doubt themselves. I was horrified to hear that, though it did help clear up why my Jayhawks looked so awful.
I am huge believer in a thing called Psycho-Cybernetics - what you visualize in your mind and what you speak about to yourself and to others WILL come to pass because your mind will make it so. Bill Self could have easily laid it on the line and said that his boys because of their youth would come out and shock people with their performance. Instead, he had diarrhea of the mouth and his Jayhawks looked like what came out of his mouth.
I relate this to business and marketing as well. If you speak about your business and your team as thriving and successful, more often than not, they seem to rise to the occasion. If you believe that a strategy will work and you speak about it accordingly, chances are it will.
Let this be a lesson to all of us not to hesitate or diminish ourselves or our chances at success. Speak boldly and back it up with effort - and then deal with what happens. That's better than being timid and losing the battle before it even begins.
